Against the Grain (ATG) Studios dancers returned earlier this year from an unforgettable trip to Disneyland, bringing back more than just performance skills—they returned with a newfound sense of confidence and a treasure trove of memories.

The trip, which balanced the intensity of high-pressure performances with the joy of shared experience, proved to be a significant milestone for the young dancers. According to the team at ATG Studios, the performers learned to embrace their uniqueness, manage the pressures of a difficult environment, and foster friendships that went beyond their usual circles.

Among the highlights of the trip was an exclusive “Party in the Park After Dark.” Disney closed the park specifically for the group, offering the dancers a unique experience where they could enjoy the rides—including favorites like the Cars attraction—and catered snacks in an intimate setting.

The training itself was rigorous and rewarding. The dancers spent time learning from industry professionals, including Miss Alana Rempel from Against the Grain Studios, Marley Brown from Weyburn, and Jennilee, the Artistic Director of the Disney program. Through this training, the students were encouraged to let go of the judgment of others and understand that they are important, worthwhile contributors to the “magic” of the show.

The impact of the trip was deeply personal for the dancers, who emphasized their gratitude for the community support that made the experience possible.

Dancers Kenzie, Kennedy, Tempi, and Myia all shared similar sentiments regarding the fundraiser, noting that the trip simply would not have happened without the generosity of those who supported them.

“Spending time in the park with my friends was so fun! I had the best time,” said Kenzie, while Kennedy highlighted that the experience taught her “the importance of teamwork, confidence, and stepping outside of my comfort zone.”

ATG Studios also expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the crucial financial support they received from local businesses, specifically Rosie’s on River, The Mad Greek, and Carol’s Catering, alongside the contributions of family and friends. While the studio noted they would have welcomed further sponsorship, they remain deeply thankful for the crucial help that allowed the children to participate.

With the Disney trip concluded, ATG Studios is already looking toward the future. The studio plans to attend new competitions outside the province, aims to return to “Dance The Magic” in a few years, and hopes to expose their dancers to more workshops in other cities to gain experience in both dance and life.
