Residents in Moose Jaw once again have access to expanded intercity bus travel options following the launch of a new FlixBus route connecting the city to communities across Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.

The new service officially launched May 7 as part of FlixBus’ broader Prairie expansion, adding Moose Jaw to the company’s Calgary-to-Regina corridor alongside stops in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Swift Current.

The expansion marks one of the most significant additions to intercity transportation in the region since the closures of Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) in 2017 and Greyhound’s Western Canadian operations in 2018, both of which left many Prairie communities with limited long-distance travel options.

Rafi Tumarkin, senior team lead of business development at Flix North America, said Moose Jaw was selected because of both its strategic location and the growing demand for reliable transportation across the Prairies.

“Moose Jaw was a natural fit for this expansion because it sits along a key travel corridor connecting Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba,” Tumarkin said. “We’ve consistently seen strong demand across the Prairies for affordable and reliable transportation options, particularly in communities that have had fewer intercity connections in recent years. Moose Jaw is an important regional hub, and we saw an opportunity to better serve that demand through our growing network.”

The new route allows passengers departing from Moose Jaw to travel west toward Calgary or east through Regina, where connections are available to destinations including Saskatoon, Edmonton, Brandon, and Winnipeg.

Tumarkin said FlixBus sees the Prairie expansion as part of a broader effort to improve regional mobility across underserved Prairie communities, noting that “smaller communities are extremely important to our long-term growth strategy in Canada.”

“We recognize that many Prairie communities have experienced reduced transportation access over the past several years, and FlixBus sees an opportunity to help fill some of those connectivity gaps,” he said. “Our goal is to provide a reliable, affordable travel option that helps reconnect people to cities, jobs, family and friends, health care, and more.”

The company expects the service to appeal to a wide range of travellers, including students, seniors, families, and residents seeking alternatives to driving or air travel.

Passengers can book tickets through the FlixBus website, mobile app, or customer service line. The company said buses include free Wi-Fi, power outlets, spacious seating, real-time trip tracking, and free luggage allowance.

Tumarkin added that FlixBus has worked to make the booking process more accessible for travellers who may not be comfortable using app-based services.

“We’ve worked to make the booking process user-friendly, and customers also have access to customer service resources if they need assistance before or during their trip,” he said. “Our goal is to make intercity travel approachable and accessible for passengers of all ages, regardless of their comfort level with technology.”

Flix currently operates in more than 40 countries and has served more than 500 million passengers globally through brands including FlixBus and Greyhound. The company said additional Saskatchewan expansion could be considered in the future as ridership grows.
